When my 12 year old daughter and I picked Jordy up the two of them locked eyes; Jordy did not want to look away from her. They had an immediate connection, and 4 weeks later she is still the one Jordy runs to first. He can't wait to see her in the morning and when she comes home from school. When she leaves the house he stares at the door for a while wondering if she's coming back. It's very sweet. And although our daughter seems to be his favorite, he has plenty of affection left for me and my husband.
It did take Jordy two or three days to warm up to my husband. I'm not sure if it's because he's a man; some dogs take a little longer to warm up to men. It's more likely that our own 2 dogs are so attached to my husband that Jordy needed some extra time to figure out how he would fit in. Now when my husband comes home from work Jordy joins in the craziness, and they immediately go outside and run around and play with him!
The first few days he was here we crated him at night and during the day when we went out. But it was clear that he didn't really need to be crated. I believe he's crate trained since he didn't have any potty accidents in his crate. I believe he's nearly house trained. He has had 2 or 3 accidents in the house during the 4 weeks we've had him. I do let the dogs out a lot during the day since I work from home, but lately he'll come and bark at me to let me know he wants to go out, so I think he's nearly there.
Jordy likes to play with toys and will chew the corners off of a dog toy if I don't catch him in time! But I'm happy to say that he has NEVER chewed anything but a dog toy. No worries at all that if I leave something out he's going to chew it up, which is another reason he hasn't needed to be crated.
For a terrier he's a pretty mellow guy. He plays when we play with him, but when we stop he hops up on the couch and rests. He's not constantly running around looking for something to do. He's content to chill out with the other dogs.
He does bark when he meets someone new or if someone comes to the door or up to the fence. It takes a couple of minutes for him to realize that everything is okay, and while he's barking he's also licking their hands or face or whatever he can get a hold of. It's kind of funny. Bark, bark, bark, lick, lick, lick. He's not sure what to do!
As you'll see in the video below, Jordy is very polite when he takes treats. He'll sit when asked to, and if our dogs are also getting treats Jordy waits his turn patiently. He's such a good boy!
He's adjusted to the snow just fine. He tip-toed around the snow the first time he went out, but today while my daughter was shoveling he was running circles around the yard trying to figure out what she was doing. No problem with the snow.
I truly believe Jordy would be a great pet in any home. He loves kids and he loves other dogs. But he's such a mellow guy that he would probably be just as happy as an only child.
Jordy is a FANTASTIC dog!
